ADAMIC AUTHORITY VERSES CHRIST AUTHORITY
Adamic authority was higher than angelic authority. But satan stole the authority from Adam in the garden of Eden when Adam disobeyed God by listening to satan, and Adam became subject to satan, legally, because the bible says you become a slave to whoever you obey; this is a spiritual law (Romans 6:16). Satan, legally, became Adam’s boss.
In the Book of Jude, verse 9, there’s something very instructive for our learning. It says, “Yet Michael the Archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.” This was after Moses died. Michael, the Archangel, came to take his body. However, when he got there, the devil also wanted Moses’ body, because he had a right over everyone who died in this world, until Jesus came.
Satan had adamic authority, which he got from Adam in the Garden of Eden; thus, he was higher than Michael at the time. So, what did Michael do? He said, “The Lord rebuke thee.” He had to speak to Satan in the Name of the Lord, to be able to get the body of Moses.
Since Adam lost his authority to satan, the old testament life was the kind of life that man became inferior to angels, and the angels had authority over God’s people to the point they could pronounce judgement or punishment on them for doing something wrong.
A simple example is when Zachariah didn’t believe the word of the angel Gabriel. The angel didn’t spare him; he said, “I’m Gabriel; I function in the presence of God; because you disbelieved my word, you shall be dumb until the child is born” (Read Luke 1:19-22), and it was so. Can you imagine that? He punished Zachariah for his unbelief.
But in the new testament, when Jesus died and resurrected, He gave us a higher authority than what Adam had or what satan received from Adam, thus making us far higher than angels also.
The Bible says that when Jesus died, we died with Him. When He was buried, we were buried with Him. When God raised Him up, we were raised together with Him. And now we’re seated together with Him in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:5-6). That’s our authority!
Matthew 16:19 states that, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven. [Isa. 22:22.]"
We’re superior to the angels because we’re born of God and are joint-heirs with Christ; we’re associates of the God-kind. God gave us the Name of Jesus, which is above every name; and we live in, and by that Name. Hence, we can give instructions to angels and they’ll obey us, because we give those instructions in the Name of Jesus.
In the New Testament, the angels are our servants; they serve us. Hebrews 1:13-14 says, “But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” We’re the heirs of salvation; angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for us. They ministered to those in the Old Testament, but they minister to and for us in the New Testament.
