LIVING A HIGHER LIFE THROUGH FASTING(1)
LIVING A HIGHER LIFE THROUGH FASTING(1)
Romans 14:17-18 states that, " '17' [After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. '18' He who serves Christ in this way is acceptable and pleasing to God and is approved by men."
The term fasting generally refers to a period of abstinence from food for the purpose of engaging in uninterrupted study, prayer and goal in focus.
As christians, fasting is one of the godly exercises we should engage in regularly, with the promise of present and eternal benefits.
It's important to note that fasting is not an effort to change God. When we fast, we are the ones that change and we are the beneficiaries of the fast. Our fasting does not change God for the scriptures say in Malachi 3:6 ".....I am the Lord, I change not....."
So how does fasting change us?
Through fasting, we can improve our effectiveness to fast more by taming our physical senses and our physical sensations and be more open to the function of our spiritual senses and spiritual sensations to the point where they are all unlimitted.
This is because, the more access we get in practically participating with the things of the spiritual world through our spiritual senses and spiritual sensations, the more powerful God's word manifests through our spirits to affect greater changes in our lives.
As christians, we are required to walk in the Spirit of love always. This means to be love controlled, not by our outward senses, but by our inward senses.
